Jackson and I have been reading a little God’s Story Bible that I got from my friend, Pastor Larry, a few years back. We decided that 2012, we were gonna stick to it and get ‘er read fully this time. By God’s grace, we’re doing better this year.

Tonight, I was shocked at his answer to a simple question. I said, “Jackson, what are you learning as we are reading through Genesis together?” He said, “I’m learning that when God makes a promise, He keeps it.” Wow! I was so encouraged. His little eight year old heart is getting it. I am grateful to God for that!! I don’t share that to boast in my parenting at all. I truly am clueless at being a dad and feel like a rookie in the NFL most of the time, but tonight I was encouraged that God is moving in spite of my weaknesses in leading this little boy. Tonight, I, too, was reminded that God IS FAITHFUL TO KEEP HIS PROMISES, from the mouth of an eight year old. So cool.

Side Note: I praise God for Providence Classical Academy and its leaders’ influence in my son’s life. I am indebted to their efforts and prayers for my child.

Genesis 3:8 – Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze…

So cool to think of what this must have been like to know God both emotionally, spiritually, but also physically. I can’t wait to see Him face to face and have that kind of relationship with Him that we were MEANT to have, before sin messed it all up. Thankful to Jesus for restoring this hope back to us and that one day it’ll be all good again. Wahoo!!

I was thinking the other day of God’s hold on us. He reminded me that no matter what I do, or don’t do, that I am HIS.

He created me. He redeemed me with the precious blood of Jesus. In a way, He is stuck with me. It’s sort of like the phrase “you can’t pick your family.” You are sort of stuck with your crazy Aunt Sally, no matter what. In a similar way, God is stuck with us as His family. But, the best part is that He wants to be. We may quickly write off crazy family members, but God doesn’t.

Maybe you can rest in that, as I did the other day. Yes, I’m crazy, but God is crazy about me anyway.

There are days when I appreciate technology and some of the ease it brings to life and staying connected with people. Other times, I want to throw all the “smart phones” away and live in the country with no tv or nothin’. Anyone have some land where we can put our horse carriage and build a wood cabin?

I can’t grow a beard though.

There’s a song by a country artist, Billy Currington, called People Are Crazy. The tag line is God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.

While I do not like beer, I DO know that people are crazy. The last few weeks I’ve seen some crazy things. I do them as well. It’s almost to the point that nothing will surprise me. It can be super frustrating. But then I remember the first line…

God is great. Enough said.

It calms my heart to know that I serve such a great God who puts up with our craziness better than anyone. And He loves us in the midst of it, too.

Thanks, Billy, for the reminder. And thank You, Jesus, for putting up with us and the paying the price for us to one day be done with all the craziness.
